Migrate a Site You Own Into Your Agency
Already own a Carrot site personally and want it to live under your agency instead? You can bring it in as an agency client without rebuilding anything. This guide walks through how.
🔒 Owner-only. Migrating a site into your agency is something only the agency owner can do. If you're a team member or a per-client manager, you won't see this option — ask your agency owner to handle the migration.
Before you start
A few things to know up front, because this move is a one-way door:
- The migration is permanent. Once a site becomes an agency client, there's no self-serve way to move it back to your personal account. If you're not sure, double-check that this is the site you mean before you confirm.
- Billing moves to your agency. After the migration, the site is billed as part of your agency plan as an Agency Site overage (if it pushes you past the client sites your plan includes) instead of on your personal subscription. See the Agency Overview for how agency client sites and overage billing work.
Bring in a site you already own
You'll start the migration from the same place you add any new client: the Add Client flow in your agency dashboard.
- From your agency dashboard, start the Add Client flow.
- Choose the option to bring in a site you already own instead of creating a brand-new client site.
- Pick the site you want to migrate from the list of sites on your personal account.
- (Optional) Choose an existing client account as the destination. Do this when you want to consolidate the site under a business you already manage in your agency, rather than standing it up as a new client. Leave this unset to bring the site in as its own new client.
- Type to confirm. Because the migration can't be undone, you'll be asked to type to confirm before it goes through. This is the point of no return — once you confirm, the site becomes an agency client.
That's it. The site keeps its content, domain, and leads; what changes is who owns and bills for it.
After the migration: review your personal add-ons
Moving a site into your agency does not automatically change your personal subscription. If you were paying for that site through Additional Site add-ons on your personal plan, Carrot won't lower that count for you.
So once the migration is done, head to your personal billing settings and lower your Additional Site add-ons to match the sites you still own personally. Otherwise you'll keep paying for an add-on you no longer need on top of the agency billing.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move the site back to my personal account later?
No. The migration is irreversible — there's no self-serve option to move a site back out of your agency. Reach out to support if you're in a bind, but plan as though the move is permanent.
Will my client lose any content, pages, or leads?
No. The site itself doesn't change — its content, design, domain, and leads come along with it. Only ownership and billing move to your agency.
A team member can't find the migration option. Where is it?
It's owner-only. Only the agency owner sees the option to bring in a site you already own, so a team member won't find that button. The owner will need to run the migration.
Will my personal subscription be lowered automatically when I migrate a site?
No. Carrot won't auto-adjust your personal plan. After migrating, lower your Additional Site add-ons yourself so you're not paying for the site twice.
